Motorbikes, dirtbikes and minibikes
When can I learn to ride a minibike?
You have to be at least 13 years old to ride a motorised bike. Before you ride, you should learn safe techniques and conduct, initially under adult supervision.
The safest place for you to learn to ride is in areas specifically designed for motorcycles and minibikes, under the supervision of experienced riders and teachers.
- Always wear a helmet, safety clothing and boots.
- Never ride in an area you don’t know, or in a “makeshift” riding area. Many riders have suffered severe head and neck injuries from collisions with low-hanging branches, wires or cables strung in their paths, or from encountering unexpected potholes or dips.
- Minibike clubs encourage responsible riding and mechanical knowledge and experienced members will answer your questions. (Your parents might like to know they also provide insurance cover.)
